Scott Adams Battles Prostate Cancer in Hospice Care

Scott Adams, the creator of “Dilbert,” is currently facing a serious health crisis. At 68 years old, he is reportedly in hospice care at his home in Northern California, with his first ex-wife, Shelley Miles, by his side.

Miles, who was married to Adams from 2006 until 2014, shared that his health has worsened significantly. Last week, she began receiving what’s referred to as “end-of-life care” at home, according to a recent statement to a publication.

While nurses are said to be present around the clock, Miles mentioned that she, along with her sister and Savannah—Adams’ stepdaughter—are actively involved in caring for him during these final days.

This news comes less than a year after Adams disclosed his diagnosis of metastatic prostate cancer in May 2025. He noted that he had been managing his health issues privately before deciding to go public, revealing that the cancer had progressed to stage 4 and spread to his bones.

Earlier this month, Adams provided a grim update on his health status. During a podcast episode, he mentioned that he had spoken to a radiologist who delivered disappointing news: “There’s basically zero chance that I’ll recover.” He indicated that regaining feeling in his legs is unlikely, and he also suffers from heart failure, complicating his ability to breathe at times.

Despite the dire circumstances, Adams clarified that he hasn’t made any definitive decisions regarding his health. He emphasized his commitment to continue working as long as it feels meaningful, expressing his passion for his craft and desire to stay occupied.

Adams remarked that his personal challenges far outweigh what many are discussing in the news. Interestingly, he is still engaged in creating new comic material even as he confronts these health obstacles.

He originally introduced “Dilbert” to the world in 1989. However, in 2023, over 80 newspapers discontinued publishing the cartoon after allegations arose surrounding racist comments he reportedly made.

Adams has faced backlash for stating that he believes black people constitute a “hate group” and suggesting that white individuals should “just stay away from black people.” Nevertheless, he continues to host podcasts and promote his comic despite the controversy.
