Dillon Brooks has recently involved himself in the unfolding tensions between Kevin Durant and Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia.
Not long after Ishbia acknowledged that trading for Durant in 2023 was a blunder for the Suns, Brooks decided to add his own commentary. On Sunday night, he shared an image of himself in a Suns jersey on Instagram, captioning it, “Thanks Matt for cleaning up that stench in the locker room before I came #culture,” while playing 50 Cent’s song “Back Down.”
Since Brooks posted this, Durant, who now plays for the Houston Rockets, hasn’t responded to him.
Their rivalry dates back to 2025, when Brooks was part of a significant trade that brought him to Phoenix along with Jalen Green, Rasheer Fleming, Koby Brea, Daeqwon Plowden, a first-round draft pick, and several future second-round picks.
Last year during the playoffs, the two were seen in a rather fiery exchange, which sparked rumors that Brooks informed Durant he was “never that guy.”
Currently, both players seem to be at a standstill. This comes after Durant shared Ishbia’s remarks on X, tagging it with “#blameKD” even though he maintained impressive performance at 36 and contributed to the “culture” highly regarded by the organization. He quipped, “Matthew acts like I got arrested for a DUI or something. Back to threads😂😂😂😂😂😂😂.”
Durant later reposted with, “U should be giving Thanks every chance u get. You don’t have to pay me an absurd amount of money to play for another team.”
As the NBA season approaches, Durant’s Rockets and Brooks’ Suns are set to square off three times, with their first matchup on November 7, followed by games on November 25 and February 5 to conclude the series.
