The Cleveland Browns’ rookie quarterback, Dilongabriel, who was drafted third overall, is welcoming the competition from Chedur Sanders. Despite being selected 60 picks earlier, Gabriel sees this as a chance to learn and grow alongside Sanders during Rookie Mini-Camp.
The quarterback room for the Browns is notably crowded, featuring established players like Deshaun Watson—who may miss the season—along with Kenny Pickett and Joe Flacco.
“I love it,” Gabriel mentioned to journalists before Saturday’s practice. “It’s great to have someone like him around. I think we can learn from each other, but it’s not just about the two of us.”
Many assumed that Gabriel, having ranked third in the Heisman Trophy voting, might feel overshadowed by Sanders. However, that hasn’t been the case. Sanders, the son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, brought his own media crew with him, making headlines after falling from a projected first-round pick to the fifth round in the draft.
“Simplicity brings focus,” Gabriel shared. “A complicated life can be distracting, and I prefer to stay centered. I know what I’m aiming to achieve.”
There’s certainly external pressure in this rivalry, with fans and analysts eager to compare their performances. Who’s looking sharper? Who’s making better throws? And how are they connecting with their teammates?
Gabriel reflected on this scrutiny, saying, “The more questions we face, the more it could potentially create divisions. We recognize how crucial it is to maintain a healthy QB room. The goal is to foster an environment where everyone can excel.”
Interestingly, Sanders also adopts a self-focused mentality, choosing not to compare himself directly with Gabriel.
