Controversial singer Pei Chong returned to her luxury apartment in Williamsburg on Tuesday night, only to find herself taken away on a stretcher and locked out.
Images show Chong, 34, on a stretcher outside the building, marking yet another troubling chapter for the Taiwanese woman who gained attention for not settling her bills at several upscale restaurants in Brooklyn.
The self-proclaimed food enthusiast was previously evicted from her $3,500-a-month apartment at 416 Kent Avenue last December after accruing $40,000 in unpaid rent. Since then, she has been alternating between Rikers Island and a psychiatric facility.
It’s still unclear what triggered the 911 call, the specific health issue she faced, or where she was taken afterward.
Chong has faced multiple charges for theft of services after allegedly dining and dashing at some of New York’s most prestigious eateries, but a judge dismissed these charges last month, stating that she was mentally unfit for trial.
Following the dismissal, she was admitted to a state hospital for mental health treatment.
This ongoing legal situation also involves immigration issues, although it’s uncertain if she’s facing any formal deportation processes.
ICE has not commented on the matter.
Rather than gaining the social media influence she sought, Chong’s attempts at dining out led to increased notoriety. Various restaurants in Williamsburg reported her frequenting establishments, dancing around bills in exchange for social media posts.
Along with a mediocre food blog where she reviews her own meals, she often shared images of pricey dishes on her social media. Notably, she brought her own lighting and camera equipment to document her dining experiences.
However, several upscale restaurants, including Missi, Francie, Lavender Lake, Motorino, and Peter Luger, grew tired of her antics and called the police regarding her unpaid tabs.
