Discussions in England Achieved Notable Advancement Toward Ending the War in Ukraine

Progress Reported in US-Ukraine-British Talks on Ending War

US officials indicate that a recent meeting involving Vice President JD Vance, British Foreign Secretary David Lamy, and representatives from Ukraine has made significant strides toward resolving the conflict in Ukraine.

While visiting the UK, Vice President Vance engaged in discussions with Ukrainian and European representatives at Shevining House, a historic palace in Kent, England, known as the country residence of the British Foreign Secretary.

Sources familiar with the gathering mentioned that this meeting was initiated by Washington. US officials expressed optimism, noting that the extensive discussions have advanced President Donald Trump’s objective of concluding the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Voldymir Zelensky commented from Kiev, stating that the meeting was “constructive,” adding, “We conveyed all messages. Our discussions are being taken seriously.”

He noted that the US President possesses both leverage and willpower, revealing that Ukraine has supported all proposals initiated by Trump since February, including a ceasefire and various forms of backing.

This meeting took place ahead of a scheduled summit in Alaska between President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

It remains uncertain whether Ukrainian representatives will participate in the Alaska discussions. Reports suggest that while involvement hasn’t been dismissed, the primary focus might be direct negotiations between Trump and Putin.

Despite this, President Zelensky and his European allies emphasized the necessity of Ukrainian officials being part of the peace process. Zelensky has made it clear that his government will not recognize any territories lost to Russia, maintaining a firm stance despite years of unsuccessful attempts to reclaim those areas.

This uncompromising position seems to align with the views of Zelensky’s European supporters, including leaders like French President Macron and Italian Prime Minister Meloni, among others.

In a joint statement released on Monday, it was reiterated that there is a commitment to the principle that international borders should not be changed by force, and that the current contact line should serve as a foundational point for negotiations.

European leaders voiced their solidarity with Ukraine, expressing a determination to unite on shared interests while maintaining close collaboration with President Trump and supporting President Zelensky and the Ukrainian people.
