With nearly 30 years of rides at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom closed this summer, you'll get new show scenes, updated rides and gameplay enhancements.
Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin will close in August and reopen within the next year, Walt Disney World executives said Tuesday.
“We're not just sitting on glory and saying, 'Well, let's keep it running,'” said Michael Hangen, creative portfolio executive producer at Walt Disney Imagering. “This is a great update to the classic attraction.”
One of the biggest upgrades to the iconic Tomorrowland Ride is the addition of a handheld blaster, allowing guests of all ages to have better goals and earn more points.
Disney Imagineers upgrades blasters with new lighting, sound and vibration effects, making it less likely that Space Rangers have hit a particular target.
Imagineer recently took part in a playtest of improvements that Disney said in a media release that it was important to “providing this out-of-the-world experience for guests.”
“Everyone had a great time and our team learned a lot,” Justin Detra, creative director of the project, said in a statement. “We've been working on this project for quite some time, so it was exciting to see it come to life for the first time on the field.”
The dark, moving, slow ride is considered suitable for all ages, allowing competition for family and friends.
The storyline fighting Zurg is from 1999 Toy Story 2was produced by Pixar Animation Studios for Walt Disney photography.
