A new cake shop at Disney's Florida theme park opening this fall has been criticized for its high prices, with fans calling the prices of some food items “sneaky” and “disgusting” .
Gwendolyn Rodgers' Cake Bake Shop on Disney World's Boardwalk in Orlando will open at a yet-to-be-disclosed date later this year, replacing the ESPN Club, which closed in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Disney fans are criticizing the menu prices before the store opens.
“This price is outrageous,” one person said on Reddit.
The menu was posted outside the bakery, which is not owned by Disney, and listed prices starting at $22, including a slice of cake.
The cake lineup includes Gwendolyn's famous Earl's Court Chocolate Cake ($26 a slice), Oprah's “O” List Mint Chocolate Cake ($24 a slice), and Pumpkin Spice Cinnamon Roll Cake ($22 a slice).
“That's the price of a whole cake at Amoretz at Disney Springs!” another Reddit user said of the price of a slice of cake.
Another added: “$8 for a coke is shockingly offensive even for Disney World.”
“Prices are out of control. Please note this is not a Disney owned or operated restaurant. This person is an independent owner and is charging $32 for a burger. Shame!” one person wrote Said this in a Google review.
The restaurant also offers pies, French pastries, homemade fudge, chocolate truffles, and cookies.
Champagne, wine and beer will also be available.
said Gavin Doyle, creator of the Mickey Visit Disney World Clown Calendar. daily mail Cake Bake Shop's menu is reportedly upsetting to fans because the prices are significantly higher than the chain's other locations in Broad Ripple Village, Indiana, and Carmel, Indiana. Doyle said the prices are also much higher than other restaurants at the theme park.
“There are many eateries offering low-priced, yet high-quality food, including the restaurant right next to this location on Disney's Boardwalk,” Doyle said.
“The sense of anticipation around this location is drawing a lot of attention to the new restaurant and menu, as so many people are walking by and wondering what the new spot will include,” he added.
Many Disney fans predicted that if prices remained high, restaurants wouldn't be open for long.
“I think this store will close within two years, especially once the novelty (if any) wears off,” one person wrote on Reddit.
Another user said: “Can't wait to see what's next for this place when it inevitably closes in 2026.”

Ticket prices for Disneyland in California increased last week, with single-day ticket prices increasing by 6% and annual pass prices increasing by up to 20%.
This means that the theme park in Anaheim, California, can charge more than $200 per person for admission on busy days.
Disney World in Orlando, Florida, also announced price increases for 2025.
The company recently announced some deals for Disney World theme park packages, but customers said the prices were still too high.
