Martina Navratilova Responds to Disney’s Decision on Jimmy Kimmel
Former tennis champion Martina Navratilova took to social media on Wednesday to voice her opinions after news broke that Disney had removed talk show host Jimmy Kimmel from the air. This decision came in light of Kimmel’s controversial remarks regarding the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
Navratilova, known for her outspoken liberal views, expressed her discontent over Kimmel’s absence from his show through a series of posts on X.
She also shared several posts relevant to the current situation surrounding Kimmel.
On Monday, Kimmel accused certain factions of reaching a “new low” by trying to link a leftist ideology to Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old suspect in the case, even after reaffirmations from authorities in an indictment on Tuesday.
“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the Magga gang, who desperately tried to portray the child who murdered Charlie Kirk as something outside their own ideology,” Kimmel remarked.
His comments followed statements from FBI officials and Utah governor Spencer Cox, who noted that Robinson’s leftist beliefs had recently become more radical. It was also revealed that he is biologically male and has a romantic relationship with a transgender partner who is transitioning to female.
Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chair Brendan Kerr issued a warning to Disney, indicating that they needed to address the controversy surrounding Kimmel’s remarks.
Kerr described Kimmel’s comments as “some of the most sickest acts,” suggesting there may be a legal path that the FCC could explore.
“There’s a growing effort in some circles to manipulate the truth about human nature. This is one of the most significant public interest stories I’ve encountered lately,” Kerr stated regarding Kimmel’s involvement in the narrative.
Nexstar Media Group, which owns numerous television stations, previously announced that it would pre-empt Kimmel’s show on ABC affiliates starting Wednesday night due to his remarks about the allegations against Tyler Robinson.
Later that evening, Disney confirmed that Kimmel would not be on the air. “Jimmy Kimmel Live will be off the air indefinitely,” a Disney spokesperson mentioned.
