“I think witches are inherently queer because we are outcasts and marginalized for a variety of reasons,” Zamata continued.
“I think the show really represents all different types of people and shows that we can all use the power that we have within ourselves to go forward and become great,” the actress added.
Disney+ Agatha All Along According to the show's official description, the miniseries tells the story of a “cursed Agatha Harkness” who “regains her freedom with the help of a group of teenagers” and “embarks on the challenges of the witch's path to reclaim her powers and explore the teenagers' motivations.” IMDb page.
As Breitbart News reported, the new Disney+ series pushes the Disney Marvel brand further into LGBTQ territory, with Zamata and co-star Joe Lock praising the show as reaching a new level in the studio's commitment to “queer” representation.
“To portray queer characters in a really authentic way in a world where everyone is on an equal footing, no matter what background they come from,” Locke says. said SFX Magazine.
The actor added that his character's gayness has always been openly gay, saying, “This is kind of the next level of expression, and there's no hiding his gayness at all in the series and it's a big part of him in a lot of scenes, but at the same time it's not the main part of him.”
Notably, Disney has been increasingly embracing LGBTQ+ identity politics in its children's entertainment: GLAAD reported that Disney will release 59 films in 2022, of which 24 are “LGBT-inclusive films.”
In recent years, Disney has been battling Florida over the state's parental rights anti-grooming law. The network has created transgender characters for its children's shows, put gay characters at the center of big-budget films and launched an LGBTQ-themed clothing line.
