New York Post report A Disneyland theme park employee was killed after being thrown from a broken-down golf cart driven recklessly behind the scenes at the park in California, police said.
Bonnie Mavis Lear, a caretaker at Club 33 in the park, suffered serious head injuries at about 11.30am on Wednesday. Details of the incident were released by Police Sergeant John McClintock.
“It didn’t need to end up like this. This whole mess could have been avoided if the golf cart driver hadn’t been driving recklessly.”
She was immediately taken to hospital where she died from her injuries two days later. Police claim the accident was a traffic accident, but Leah’s co-workers say Leah was thrown from the golf cart when the driver “recklessly” hit a bump in the road.
Leah was reportedly riding in a rear-facing seat of a golf cart traveling at 20 mph behind Critter County, a temporarily closed area of the park, when the cart suddenly hit a bump and Leah was thrown from the vehicle.
“It didn’t need to end up like this. This whole mess could have been avoided if the golf cart driver hadn’t been driving recklessly,” said Ray Delgado, an attraction performer at California Adventure.
“The golf cart in the entertainment department was brand new, how could it have been broken down?! It’s so unfair to us and our family.”
Fox News Digital said it had reached out to Disneyland for comment.
“She tried to grab hold of the railing but it gave way and she was thrown from the vehicle. We don’t know if the passengers were aware that she had fallen out of the vehicle,” Delgado continued.
As a result, Leah suffered head injuries and a fractured skull which could not be repaired through surgery.
Delgado also said managers at the Anaheim resort had instructed cast members not to say anything about the incident surrounding her death, reportedly a veteran Disneyland employee with 24 years of experience.
“We are heartbroken by Bonnie’s death and our deepest condolences go out to all who cared about her,” Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock said. Fox News Digital.
“At this time, our focus is on supporting her family and cast members through this tragic event and ensuring they have the resources they need.”
Authorities are investigating the incident.
