Disney's Grooming Syndicate Cuts Hundreds of Jobs, Affecting 150 Employees from Pixar

Disney’s Ongoing Layoffs

Some interesting news this Tuesday morning: the Disney Grooming Syndicate is continuing to downsize, reflecting the broader trend of massive layoffs happening across the company.

The latest report indicates that Disney is eliminating hundreds of jobs, with Pixar and National Geographic facing significant cuts. Specifically, Tuesday’s layoffs followed recent staff reductions at ESPN due to its NFL contract.

The cuts at Disney Entertainment Television total nearly 100 positions, impacting many National Geographic employees both at the network and in various departments. Around a dozen staff members from ABC News were also affected, with additional layoffs across other departments in Disney Entertainment Television.

Pixar recently suffered a loss of 125 employees last May, and now another 150 have been let go. It’s hard not to have mixed feelings; remember, this is the same team that created a character in a children’s film with a lesbian romance storyline.

On a brighter note, while layoffs are upsetting, there are still about 4,000 employees at Pixar. There’s an unspoken thought here—these layoffs might be tied to the stagnation in Disney’s stock price, which has been dropping year over year, currently down 24 percent. Moreover, the rise of AI is likely to impact many jobs in entertainment, particularly in computer graphics, which Pixar heavily relies on. Instead of employing a multitude of artists for detailed tasks, AI could streamline their processes significantly.

This change isn’t just confined to computer animation; AI is expected to transform the creation of environments, sets, and even aspects of live-action films.

And let’s not forget, Pixar may not even need traditional voice actors for their films in the future. Icons like Tim Allen and Tom Hanks could one day be offered sizeable sums for the rights to their voices, making them a staple in future projects. Even if some don’t sign on, their successors might just fill that gap.

This shift towards AI will unfold gradually at first, then suddenly—alluding to that familiar saying about bankruptcy.

It’s hard to overlook the ways Disney appears to influence and shape young minds, often pushing boundaries that many might find concerning.
