The live-action remake of “Snow White,” which has been caught up in the controversy over comments debated by star Rachel Zegler's Israel, Donald Trump and even Mouse House, is expected to lose around $115 million, according to the report.
The film, which premiered on March 21, won just $14.2 million domestically over the second weekend. Distribution had a deadline.
Detailed forecasts suggest that the film will generate gross revenues of around $295 million, including $110 million from global theatre rentals, $62 million from home entertainment sales, $130 million from streaming and television rights, and $2 million from products.
This would cost $410 million to make a film. The inflated costs include $270 million in production alone, mainly due to delays in production caused by industry strikes and fires that erupt on the set of British films.
Additionally, promotion fees, residual payments and other expenses contributed an additional $140 million, the source said.
The Colombian and Polish Zeglar is on the forefront of the backlash, casting her for a series of inflammatory comments that Disney said was “the fairest of all of them.”
After the presidential election last November, she posted to X “F-K Donald Trump” and “supporters and Trump voters and Trump voters and Trump himself don't know peace.”
These comments came three months after she got caught up in the Israel-Gaza War by writing “and always remember, free Palestine” and finishing her post on X.
The Israeli actress was in the service of the IDF.
Zegler also ripped Disney in a promotional interview for the film. Animated classics are outdated and have problems with their romantic storyline.
“The original comic came out in 1937, and obviously it did,” she said. “There's a big focus in her love story with a guy who literally sneaks her up. It's weird and weird.”
Zegler tried to return her criticism of the film last week, calling the opportunity to play Snow White a “lifetime honor.”
But she now appears to have the honor of working on Disney flops.
Box office revenue is expected to be significantly lower than other recent live-action adaptations such as “Dumbo” and “The Little Mermaid.”
“Dumbo,” directed by Tim Burton at a cost of $170 million, won around $353 million worldwide. “The Little Mermaid” was raked around the world for $569.6 million against a $250 million budget.
However, both remakes were considered unperformers compared to the $1.5 billion won in the Lion King update and the $1 billion won by Aladdin.
The post was contacted Disney for comments.
