Disney's 'The View' Selects Not to Book Republican Guests

Concerns Arise Over ABC’s Political Programming

There’s growing evidence suggesting that Disney is misusing publicly owned airwaves in a way that resembles a left-leaning political action committee. Following an investigation initiated by Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr in February, ABC’s daytime show The View has faced scrutiny for violating the FCC’s equal time regulations.

The equal time rules mandate that all qualified candidates receive a fair opportunity to appear on news programs, especially leading up to elections. While late-night shows often lack the same requirements, programs like The View, which are broadcast using public airwaves, are expected to serve the public interest rather than advancing personal political agendas.

Historically, enforcement of these equal time rules has been lax, allowing shows like The View and other late-night formats to act more like Democratic campaign platforms than unbiased news programs. Both former President Trump and Chairman Carr are keen to address this misuse of airwaves.

Currently, instead of allowing Republican voices to share their perspectives, it appears that the producers of The View have opted for a strategy of exclusion. This raises questions about their commitment to diverse political discourse.

Reports indicate that The View had previously scheduled a range of political guests—from Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene to Senator Bernie Sanders—yet their booking practices have shifted. Recently, the show has leaned toward featuring more entertainers and storytellers, sidelining politicians.

A vital case arises with Democratic Senator Cory Booker from New Jersey, whose campaign is gearing up just as the primary filing deadline approaches. It would seem that Disney, which owns ABC, might be wary of giving exposure to his opponents, potentially impacting his standing in both the primary and general elections.

This situation paints a troubling picture of how politically charged and self-serving Disney has become. While they are entitled to operate their business as they see fit, the fact remains that they generate significant profits while utilizing public airwaves. At minimum, one would expect them to adhere to the law and honor their responsibilities to the public.
