Dispute between Trump and Melania was really about UN escalator, say lip readers

A recent video has sparked discussions, showing President Trump pointing at Melania outside the White House. It seems like an intense interaction, with Melania shaking her head during this exchange, which was caught through a marine window on the south lawn on Wednesday evening.

There’s been a lot of chatter online, with comparisons to French President Emmanuel Macron, suggesting there may have been tension between Trump and Melania. Some believe that the incident relates back to a conversation about an escalator malfunction at the UN headquarters just the day before.

Jeremy Freeman, a forensic lip reader who has provided expert insights in the UK, mentioned, “From my reading, it seems like there was some distance in their conversation.” He also interpreted Melania as saying Trump “just moved on.” Freeman highlighted the remarkable nature of the exchange, stating how it was unusual, as if Trump was responding to something pressing.

Freeman elaborated further, noting that at one point Melania told Trump, “Look at me,” indicating a serious moment before they stepped away from the helicopter onto the grass.

Earlier, Trump had called attention to an escalator malfunction at the UN, which notably happened just as he and Melania were about to enter for a speech. Footage showed Melania struggling as the escalator failed.

Trump later remarked on the situation, emphasizing how they both narrowly avoided an accident, given the steepness and metal edges of the escalator. He noted they had to grip the railing tightly to prevent a fall—a somewhat harrowing detail.

The president described the moment as “absolutely obstructive,” citing commentary from the press regarding the UN incident, where staff jokingly suggested they had manipulated the escalators to cause disruption.

In discussing the helicopter encounter, Nicola Hickling, another lip reader from the UK, pointed out that Trump was protective of Melania, expressing, “I can’t forgive them; they tried to hurt you.” Melania reportedly replied with concern for their safety, saying, “We can’t do this. We need to be safe.” To which Trump asserted, “They’re finished. We have to confront them.”
