Army Veteran Shot in Walmart Parking Lot Altercation
Disturbing footage reveals the tragic moment an Army veteran lost his life during what seemed to be a minor dispute over a Walmart parking lot in Florida.
As reported by Local 10 News, the heart-wrenching cell phone video starts with the victim, Bart DiGuglielmo, 62, in a heated exchange with an unidentified woman in the parking area of the North Lauderdale store around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
DiGuglielmo approached the woman, who seemed to retreat, just as a car left the space where their argument had intensified.
In a sudden turn, the woman drew a gun and shot DiGuglielmo, who was still at a distance. The footage captures the shocking moment he collapses to the ground, clutching his stomach.
Emergency responders indicated that DiGuglielmo initially sat on the ground before lying down in the pool of his own blood.
After the incident, the woman was spotted with her weapon resting on her car as she awaited the police, reportedly screaming and crying. Yet, she was also seen mocking DiGuglielmo as he lay wounded. Investigators noted that the violent encounter stemmed from a disagreement over a parking spot.
When taken into custody, the woman claimed she acted in self-defense, according to deputies from the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
A retired nurse and esteemed military veteran residing in Lauderhill, Florida, DiGuglielmo was transported to Broward Health Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
His daughter Amanda, visibly distraught, described her father as a “good man” who had recently been trying to rebuild their relationship.
“I mean, it’s just tragic. Nobody should die in a parking lot,” she shared in an emotional interview with Local 10.
Amanda vehemently denied allegations that her father had provoked the situation, stating, “They say he made advances toward the woman, but that’s just not him. He wasn’t perfect, but he wouldn’t do something so extreme.”
The Broward County State’s Attorney’s Office indicated that detectives continue to investigate the shooting and are analyzing cell phone footage to assess whether any criminal charges will be pursued against the shooter.
