Tragic Incident at Westwood Grocery Store

A grocery store in Westwood was the scene of destruction and tragedy on Thursday when an elderly woman lost control of her vehicle, resulting in multiple fatalities.

Footage obtained shows the driver, visibly shaken, trapped in her damaged Mercedes shortly after the incident. One victim is seen lying on the hood of the car, alongside scattered debris.

The woman, reportedly in her 70s, drove into the store around noon, killing at least three individuals and injuring six more. Among the deceased are a 42-year-old woman, a 55-year-old man, and a 30-year-old man, according to reports.

While much of the video is blurred—presumably due to its graphic content—the driver has yet to face any charges or arrests.

A bystander speaking Spanish can be heard cautioning the driver to remain still to avoid further injuries, saying, “Don’t move.”

In another moment captured on video, a person in medical scrubs is seen performing CPR on a victim while onlookers appear visibly distressed. Another individual is shown on the ground in pain, near the counter.

Located just a few blocks from UCLA, the 99 Ranch Market resembled a war zone. Glass, shopping bags, and food littered the ground.

A man behind the camera remarked he was about to enter the store for a drink when the crash occurred, exclaiming, “There are dead people,” as another voice urged bystanders to leave the area.

As the chaos unfolded, individuals began to clear debris and call for medical help.

A nearby woman urged police officers for an ambulance as they worked among the wreckage.

The severity of the accident prompted first responders to quickly set up a triage area, which is standard practice in mass casualty situations. White tents were used to cover the bodies at the scene.

Fire officials indicated they do not believe the incident was intentional. The driver had struck a cyclist, who thankfully was unharmed, before losing control and crashing into the store. She has been cooperating with authorities and received a medical assessment.

The Los Angeles Police Department stated that a comprehensive investigation is underway to uncover the factors leading to the incident.

In a response, Mayor Karen Bass expressed condolences, sharing her thoughts with the victims and their families, as well as all those impacted by the tragedy at 99 Ranch Market.
