Divorce file at center of Fani Willis relationship claims released

More details about the relationship between Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis and special prosecutor Nathan Wade will be made public after a judge rules that his divorce case be unsealed. be.

Wade had asked to have his divorce sealed from his wife of 26 years, Jocelyn Wade, after becoming the lead prosecutor for Donald Trump and his co-defendants on election fraud charges in Georgia.

But at an emergency hearing in Cobb County on Monday, Judge Henry Thompson ruled the case should be made public and whether Willis, who is said to be in a relationship, should appear at the deposition. I heard the discussion.

Joycelyn's attorney, Andrea Hastings, accused Willis on Monday of blocking access to information related to the case, claiming she “knew the cause of the separation” between the former couple.

Jocelyn's lawyers had previously accused Wade of leaving her in dire poverty, hiding her income and spending it on lavish things, including holidays with Willis.

“I want to know how he spends his money…I have reason to believe he is spending it on other women,” Hastings said, adding that Willis “inappropriately… , is trying to hide using her position as a shield.”

“Whatever her job is has nothing to do with whether she should be present at this deposition…I have a question and she needs to answer it,” Hastings argued.

Mr. Willis' lawyer, Cinque Axum, has argued that the district attorney has no knowledge of the details of Mr. and Mrs. Willis' marriage, which had already broken down in 2017, and has no idea how he spends his money. Therefore, Willis' testimony was meaningless.

“The knowledge she may or may not have is not unique. If Willis had an affair with Wade as alleged, he would We will have it,” Aksam said.

Willis and Wade are accused of having an “inappropriate” personal relationship with Michael Roman, one of the co-defendants charged with state extortion for interfering in the 2020 election.

Willis, who has sued Trump and 18 co-defendants, hired Wade, her alleged secret lover, to oversee the case in late 2021 at the Atlanta-based Wade & Campbell law firm. He served as the company's personal attorney.

Trump and the remaining 14 co-defendants in the case have all pleaded not guilty.

Willis filed an emergency motion last week asking a judge to rescind the subpoena that would have meant she would have to testify in Wade's divorce case.

In response, Joycelyn's lawyers submitted bank records showing that Wade booked tickets for himself and Willis on his personal credit card during the election interference prosecution. Mr. Roman's claim is that he is using funds paid by the Fulton County Attorney's Office for this purpose and that Mr. Willis is profiting from it, a clear misuse of county funds and a professional benefit. It shows a contradiction.

Judge Thompson said Tuesday that he would not rule on whether Willis must take a deposition until after Wade's evidence, scheduled for Tuesday, is completed.

In addition to Wade's divorce filing in Cobb County, Judge Scott McAfee is presiding over the Georgia election interference case in Fulton County.

He said in court Friday that he plans to hold a hearing on the alleged relationship between Wade and Willis in early February and set a Feb. 2 deadline for Willis to respond to the alleged relationship.

Mr. Trump and Mr. Roman have pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The case has not yet been scheduled for trial.
