DJ Injured While Protecting Women From More Than 10 Assailants, Battling for Survival

DJ Hospitalized After Protecting Women from Attackers

A California DJ is currently in the hospital with life-threatening injuries following an attack involving more than ten assailants on September 6th. The incident occurred at a National City boat dock, where several women were reportedly being assaulted.

Ricky Haynes, 33, was preparing his equipment two weeks after performing at a birthday party on a small yacht. He rushed towards the commotion upon hearing screams. “I heard people being pushed into the water,” he recalled, “and then I saw a lot of people on top of the girls and two guys stepping on these girls.”

In an effort to protect the women, Haynes pushed two attackers away from them before he himself was pushed into the water. As he managed to return to the dock, one of the men allegedly stabbed him in the chest. “One of the girls behind me said, ‘You were just stabbed,'” Haynes said.

The stabbing caused severe injuries, puncturing a lung, fracturing a rib, and coming perilously close to his heart. As the attackers fled in their vehicles, Haynes described a dire scene: blood was pouring from his wound.

Doctors in the emergency room have confirmed the seriousness of his injuries, and his recovery could take several months. “Even with painkillers, I’m having a hard time breathing right now,” he shared.

According to police, the violent encounter began when women from Haynes’s party accidentally brushed against women from another group. Despite his current state, Haynes is resolute about his actions: “That was the right thing to do. Those girls could have been killed and stabbed,” he asserted.

The investigation into the attack is ongoing. Haynes expressed his concerns about the possibility of the attackers evading justice. “That’s scary. If they get away with this, more people will be stabbed. I don’t want anyone else to go through this,” he stated, adding, “I’m happy to be alive. There were many moments during the whole situation where I thought I was a goner.”

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support Haynes during his recovery.
