DJ Lemahieu played back-to-back games for the first time in a minor league chabulation assignment with Double-A Somerset as he recovered from the tense left calf that suffered in the first Grapefruit Leig match of spring training.
Lemahieu hit on Sunday, becoming 6-6 at Homer in four games against Somerset.
Aaron Boone said Lemahieu, who played two bases during the rehabilitation game, will move to third place this week when his rehabilitation assignments are moved to Triple A Scranton/Wilkesbahl.
His workload will continue to increase at SWB this week from Tuesday.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. is comfortable in the second, and Oswald Cabrera has made five errors – as many as the third major player – Lemahieu slides the easiest as the third baseman.
Cabrera took the recent hit and scored a two-run double in an 11-2 victory in Sunday’s doubleheader first game in the Bronx.
Anthony Volpe hit 4 Homer in the first five games of the year, but didn’t hit another game until Sunday. He added two singles in a 5-1 victory in Game 2.
Boone said there was a difference in Volpe’s swing during batting practice on Friday, and it was carried over to the game.
“It’s great and easy,” Boone said of Volpe’s recent changes. “That’s what he can do.”
Lewis Gill began his throwing program on Sunday after being pushed back first.
The right-hander of Al2 of the Year last season has been on the sidelines with rat tension since the spring.
He is scheduled to make his season debut in June.
“It’s another good step in the process,” Boone said. “Hopefully it will continue to work.”
Boone said Jonathan Roashga’s first rehabilitation outing with Low A Tampa was solid.
The right-hander has returned from elbow surgery and could be an important addition to the pen mid-season.
Tyler Matzek made his Yankees debut with his first game victory.
Between the left sidelines with oblique damage to the left abdomen. He allowed him to run in nine innings.
Ben Rice, who appeared with the Yankees system as a catcher, was behind the plate for the first time on Sunday.
He began the match with DH before taking over to Austin Wells in the ninth.
Rice works in that position almost every day despite leaving Giancarlo Stanton, primarily as DH and backup first baseman.
Right-handed Yerry de los Santos was used as the 27th person in Sunday’s doubleheader.
He traded Max Fried to begin his seventh, pitching two scoreless innings before returning to SWB following his second game.
