DNA evidence tested from gloves linked to Nancy Guthrie discovered near Tucson home

A pair of black gloves found near Nancy Guthrie’s home in Tucson is currently undergoing DNA analysis, a recent development in the ongoing investigation into her disappearance.

Authorities indicated that the gloves were located about a mile and a half from her residence. It’s still uncertain if they are related to the masked individual captured on the home’s surveillance video.

Law enforcement, including deputies and FBI agents, were seen combing the desert brush and roadsides late Wednesday into Thursday, focusing their efforts within a mile of the property. Observers noted several police vehicles and a forensics truck as investigators meticulously searched the rocky and cactus-laden grounds. However, officials did not disclose the reasons for this specific search.

In addition, investigators are requesting Ring doorbell footage from homes in the area for two crucial timeframes: from 9 p.m. to midnight on January 11 and from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on January 31.

The black gloves were discovered shortly after the FBI released a black-and-white photo of a masked person with a backpack and gun holster on Guthrie’s porch the evening she went missing. The individual appears to be reaching towards the doorbell camera, but the footage does not show the events that unfolded afterwards.

Authorities had briefly detained a man near the U.S.-Mexico border after the images were made public. He was later questioned and released. Searches were also carried out in Rio Rico, the man’s place of residence, but details regarding the reasons for the detainment and any potential charges remain undisclosed.

Nancy Guthrie, who is 84 years old and the mother of NBC’s Today show host Savannah Guthrie, was last seen on January 31 and reported missing the following day. Investigators suspect she was taken against her will and mentioned that DNA tests confirmed blood found on the balcony belonged to her.

Since the release of the surveillance images, the Pima County Sheriff’s Office has reportedly received thousands of tips from the public as the investigation gathers momentum. FBI Director Kash Patel noted that investigators worked for several days to recover previously inaccessible footage related to the case.

Savannah Guthrie has expressed her family’s belief that her mother is still alive. Both she and her brother have mentioned their willingness to pay a ransom; however, it remains unclear if the ransom messages circulating are authentic or if there has been direct contact with the individual claiming responsibility for the kidnapping.

Concerns for Nancy Guthrie’s health have also been voiced, particularly as she relies on multiple medications, which adds urgency to the ongoing search efforts.
