Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Jamie Harrison said: think “History will show” that House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) is “the most incompetent Speaker of the House in my lifetime.”
Harrison made the comments during an appearance on The Saturday Show with Jonathan Capehart when asked about the current turmoil roiling the House over the spending bill and the impending government shutdown. Mr. Harrison responded that he had “worked on the floor of the House of Representatives,” but “I have never seen anything like that.”
Mr. Harrison said of Mr. McCarthy, “I think he just wants to have a portrait in the Speaker’s gallery, but I don’t think there is a ‘just the Speaker’s name’ gallery.” “They’re going to give it to him, but this guy is pathetic.”
Mr. McCarthy has publicly expressed frustration with recent disagreements among House members over the spending bill, criticizing lawmakers like Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) who oppose the bill.
“This is a whole new concept of people who just want to burn the whole place down,” McCarthy told reporters Thursday.
“That’s not going to work,” McCarthy said. “Look, I know it’s a roadblock. I think it’s a challenge, so we’re going to solve it.”
Harrison also slammed House Republicans for their recent impeachment inquiry into President Biden. He called it “baseless.”
“They just don’t have a policy agenda, as we say in the South, ‘Jonathan, bless their hearts,'” Harrison said.
