President Joe Biden’s Hollywood donors are withdrawing their support for the 81-year-old president, or at least suspending their donations, following his debate with former President Donald Trump last week. “Do they think we’re stupid? We have eyes,” said one source, adding that the entertainment industry donors felt insulted by the campaign’s claims that Biden actually won the debate.
“We know many of you watched last night’s debate,” Biden Victory Fund Southern California financial director Haley Sasse said in an email Friday. report By the deadline.
“Our team received feedback from people today and wanted to share some highlights and resources to help facilitate the conversations you’re having,” Sasse’s email added.
The email went on to say, “The choice in this election is simple: Donald Trump will destroy our democracy and Joe Biden will protect it.”
“This is the same race as it was before the debate, and post-debate polling has shown no significant change in voter opinion,” the campaign added. “This race will be decided in battleground states in November 2024, just as it was in April 2023.”
As Deadline noted, the emails “appear as if the debate’s free fall never happened. The New York Times The editorial board is not begging the president to step down in the interest of the nation.”

One industry leader who regularly attends Biden fundraisers told the outlet that he and others have decided to “wait and see” before writing another check.
A New York-based entertainment executive echoed similar sentiments, telling Deadline that the Trump-Biden debate “was a nightmare,” adding, “If we just keep donating, we’re contributing to the nightmare.”
“There will be at least a pause,” another West Coast political insider told the outlet. “How long it lasts will depend on how bad things get and whether the campaign actually takes action. We can’t let last night happen again.”
Meanwhile, others were less warmly disposed toward Biden, with one person telling Deadline that the president’s performance in last week’s debate was “a total joke.”

The entertainment donors even added that they were personally insulted by the campaign’s assertion that Biden actually won the debate.
