Doc Rivers Criticizes Shams Charania’s Reporting

Doc Rivers recently expressed dissatisfaction with Shams Charania’s coverage, suggesting he’s not measuring up to Adrian Wojnarowski’s standards.

The Milwaukee Bucks coach didn’t hold back while critiquing ESPN’s NBA Insider, particularly regarding the media coverage surrounding a troubled Bucks team. This situation has intensified, especially with star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo at odds with the front office regarding his playing status.

Charania reported that Rivers addressed the team in a lengthy speech following a heavy loss to the Chicago Bulls on March 1. In this talk, Rivers supposedly stated, “I know everything that’s going on in this building.”

According to ESPN, Rivers asserted, “You’re either with us or you’re against us. If you don’t play hard, we won’t play with you anymore.”

On a recent episode of “Run It Back,” Rivers mentioned that Charania’s claims were quite inaccurate. He humorously remarked, “We don’t even have enough time to discuss them.” He added with a laugh, “My first thought was, ‘Where’s Woj?’ I’m really going to miss him.” Reflecting on the tough locker room atmosphere after the Bulls’ loss, he noted that the team reviewed clips to lighten up the mood.

Rivers emphasized his strong relationship with Antetokounmpo, downplaying any potential conflicts between them.

Contrastingly, the situation regarding Antetokounmpo and the front office seems more complicated. They have differing opinions on why he won’t participate in the final game of the season, despite the Bucks not being in playoff contention.

Rivers has had an ongoing feud with Charania, jokingly suggesting that Charania might be traded for Antetokounmpo in the NBA Celebrity All-Star game.

Furthermore, Rivers mentioned that Charania was so affected by his comments that he allegedly confronted the Bucks front office to express his displeasure. Rivers recounted, “Shams took it so personally that he actually called the Bucks and yelled at them to take it down.” He further explained that the NBA was caught off guard by Charania’s actions, responding that they weren’t concerned at all.

Charania stepped into his role at ESPN after Wojnarowski took a position as the general manager of St. Bonaventure. As the regular season wraps up, the Bucks hold a disappointing record of 31-49, leading some, including ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, to speculate that Rivers could be coaching his last game with the team.
