The doctor and his wife appeared on Fox News Channel on Sunday afternoon to talk about their experience at President Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
In a conversation with Martha MacCallum, Dr. James Sweetland recalled how he quickly went to the aid of Corey Comperatore, 50, who was shot at the rally and later pronounced dead.
“As an emergency department physician, I just relied on muscle memory,” he explained, “I just went there to help them. When I got to him, I said, as doctors usually say, ‘I’m a doctor, I’m here to help.’
Medical experts added that Pennsylvania State Police performed CPR on Comperatore before taking the victim away.

“He was pinned between two benches. We lifted him onto the bench and did CPR for about two minutes, chest compressions and rescue breathing,” Sweetland explained. “And at that moment, one of the two biggest Pennsylvania State Troopers I’ve ever seen tapped me on the shoulder, and he said, ‘I got you out of here.'”
Sweetland’s wife, Lois, told McCollum how heartbroken the rally attendees were about the shooting.
“Everybody was so upset,” she explained. “One girl in front of me was just completely out of control. She was just crying because of the trauma. It was really… really sad.”

Pennsylvania State Police have released the names of the three attendees who were shot and killed in the assassination attempt.
As previously mentioned, Comperatore was murdered. The second victim was identified as 57-year-old David Duch. New Kensington, Pennsylvania The third victim, identified as 74-year-old James Copenhaver of Moon Township, Pennsylvania, is also in stable condition.

According to local news station WPXI, Comperatore was the former fire chief of Buffalo Township, a volunteer fire department.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has ordered that U.S. and state flags be flown at half-staff at all state institutions, public buildings and grounds in memory of Comperatore.
At a press conference on Sunday, Shapiro called on Americans to pray together and turn away from hatred and malice.

“Now is a moment when we all have a responsibility to ease tensions, move beyond the hateful rhetoric that exists, and seek a better, brighter future for our country. Please join Lori and me in praying for the two Pennsylvanians who remain in critical condition, the family of Corey Comperatore, and former President Donald Trump,” Shapiro said.
The FBI is investigating the assassination attempt as a possible act of domestic terrorism.
