North Carolina Doctor Arrested After Road Rage Shooting

A doctor from North Carolina was taken into custody on August 22 following an alleged road rage incident on the interstate, which resulted in injuries to two sisters aged 12 and 20, according to Virginia State Police.

Dr. Richard Thomas Arriviello, 61, from Charlotte, was driving north on Interstate 77 in his Mercedes-Benz around 8:50 a.m. when, approximately three miles north of the North Carolina-Virginia state line, he reportedly fired shots into a moving Jeep.

State police stated that Arriviello struck both sisters in the legs with his gunfire. Fortunately, their injuries were deemed not life-threatening, and they were airlifted to a local hospital for treatment.

After the shooting, Arriviello fled the scene, but police managed to locate and stop his vehicle about 15 miles away, subsequently taking him into custody.

He faces various felony charges, including maliciously shooting into an occupied vehicle and intentionally causing bodily harm. Additionally, there’s a charge for using a firearm while committing a felony.

Currently, Arriviello is being held without bond at the New River Valley Regional Jail, with a court appearance scheduled for September 29. At this stage, authorities have not disclosed what might have triggered the road rage altercation or if a firearm was recovered from his vehicle.

The driver of the Jeep was also cited for reckless driving, but the identity of this individual has not been released.

According to records from the North Carolina Medical Board, Arriviello has been practicing as an emergency medicine physician in the state since 2010, and there are no public records of disciplinary actions against him. He is also listed as the owner of Family Urgent Care in Monroe.
