The Essential Role of Concierge Medicine in the Hamptons

In the Hamptons, having access to quality medical care has become as much a luxury as hiring private chefs or yacht crews. Wealthy individuals and celebrities are reportedly willing to spend six figures annually on concierge doctors who provide a variety of services—everything from Botox administered on boats to more serious medical emergencies.

Take Alexander Golberg, known around town as “Dr. Hamptons.” He has built an impressive practice by offering a combination of personalized care and exclusivity, charging clients up to $1,000 for house calls. His son, Mark, often assists him as they zip around the East End in a black Range Rover equipped with a designer doctor’s bag and supplies like cold injections stored in a caviar cooler.

“We’re essentially a mobile hospital,” said Dr. Asma Rashid of Hamptons Boutique Medicine. She notes that her team often acts as “clean-up crews” after high-society parties that sometimes get a bit out of hand. They’ve even had to stitch up injuries right at extravagant mansions, like those on Meadow Lane and Dune Road.

Privacy is crucial for their clientele. Professional athletes might seek discreet stem cell injections to keep injuries under wraps, while socialites want cosmetic enhancements just hours before their next big event.

Rashid mentioned that her patients view access to concierge services as vital, insisting that “money is not a disability.” The demand for such services surged during the pandemic when affluent New Yorkers flocked to the East End, requiring 24-hour testing and treatment for COVID-19.

Now, concierge medical services are a permanent fixture in the area. Companies like Sollis Health have entered the market, joining independent practitioners like Golberg and Rashid.

Among Golberg’s most sought-after services is a procedure humorously dubbed “boat tox,” which involves administering Botox on luxury yachts. Sometimes, partygoers find themselves needing urgent cosmetic touch-ups, while Mark also promotes the “Doctor G Lift,” a non-invasive facelift option that’s becoming increasingly popular.

But it’s not all glitz and glamour; there are underlying dangers. Cocaine, for instance, is frequently encountered at these parties, and doctors are often called upon to manage overdoses or drug-related incidents discreetly.

“These substances aren’t safe; they can be incredibly risky,” Rashid cautioned.

For celebrities and public figures, maintaining discretion is crucial. Negative headlines can jeopardize their careers and influence future contracts, particularly for athletes. This need for confidentiality fuels the steady demand for specialized medical services in the area.

Golberg’s journey is nearly as intriguing as his medical practice. After immigrating from Russia in 1989, he initially worked in a family business before pivoting to medicine. Now, his credentials include specialties in family medicine, osteopathy, and anti-aging treatments. Interestingly, he credits the TV show “Royal Pains,” centered around a doctor catering to the well-off, as a source of inspiration for his career.

Today, he and Mark work together to deliver the high-touch services expected by their clients. However, they sometimes turn down requests, such as those from patients looking to administer their own Ozempic injections.

As Rashid put it, summer amplifies the need for their services. “It’s about making sure patients stay energized and hydrated in a social landscape that demands their best,” she said, noting the need for proper electrolytes and vitamins, especially during busy social seasons.
