On Friday, Joe Casper, Chief of Staff for Defense Secretary Pete Hegses, sent a memo stating that DOD members may have to take part in a polygraph test of sensitive information in “recent unauthorized disclosures.”
“The recent unauthorized disclosure of national security information, including sensitive communication with principals within the Secretary of Defense Office (OSD), calls for immediate and thorough investigation,” Casper signed on March 21 in a memo.st.
“I will work with the appropriate Department of Defense Intelligence (anti-intellectuality, law enforcement, and security) directors to support OSDs, working with appropriate Department of Defense (DOD) stakeholders, including those responsible for maintaining and overseeing appropriate security systems and coordinating with necessary federal partners,” he added.
“This investigation will be launched soon and we will reach a report to the Secretary of Defense, which will include a complete record of fraudulent disclosures within the Department of Defense and recommendations to improve such efforts.
He also said that the use of polygraphs will be carried out “in accordance with applicable laws and policies.”
The memo comes after Elon Musk says people who have been leaking “malicious and false information” to the news outlet have been “discovered and charged.”
