The two most thrilling words for sports enthusiasts are “Game 7.” The finale of the 2025 season saw the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays square off in an unforgettable showdown. This clash was filled with joy, hope, heartbreak, and a reminder that baseball often defies expectations.
Throughout the game, the Dodgers struggled to take the lead. The Blue Jays managed to contain most of the Dodgers’ key hitters for a significant part of the match. It wasn’t until Miguel Rojas belted a game-tying home run off Blue Jays closer Jeff Hoffman that the Dodgers found their momentum. Will Smith then stepped up in the 11th inning, hitting a dramatic home run that sealed the victory for Los Angeles.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who had pitched in Game 6, contributed 2.2 innings and notably ended the game with a double play, securing a 5-4 win for the Dodgers.
This victory marked a milestone for Los Angeles, making them the first team since the New York Yankees in 1999 and 2000 to claim back-to-back championships. The game was exactly what fans hoped for.
Toronto’s second baseman Bo Bichette, nursing a knee injury, managed to hit a powerful three-run home run off the nearly undefeated Shohei Ohtani, sending the home crowd into a frenzy as they took the lead.
Yet, the atmosphere was charged with tension. In the fourth inning, Dodgers relief pitcher Justin Roblewski accidentally hit Andres Jimenez, which prompted both benches to clear and the umpires to issue warnings.
The Dodgers began to claw their way back, with Teoscar Hernandez’s sacrifice fly scoring Will Smith, followed by Tommy Edman’s sacrifice fly that brought Mookie Betts home in the sixth.
Toronto added crucial runs when Jimenez doubled, bringing in Ernie Clement and further extending their lead to 4-2.
The game truly shifted in the eighth and ninth innings. Max Muncy of the Dodgers hit a solo home run off Trey Yesavage, narrowing the gap. This, in turn, forced the Blue Jays to bring Hoffman into play earlier than planned. Rojas, who hadn’t registered a hit since October 1st, managed to tie the game with a home run off Hoffman.
As the bottom of the ninth approached, the Blue Jays posed a serious threat. The Dodgers made a critical decision to replace Blake Snell with Yamamoto, yet tensions rose with the bases loaded. Yamamoto adeptly got Dalton Varsho to ground out to Rojas, who threw to Will Smith, helping the Dodgers regain their footing behind the plate.
Next up was Ernie Clement, who nearly sent a hit over the head of left fielder Enrique Hernandez. But center fielder Andy Pages made a remarkable play, denying the hit and preserving the Dodgers’ hopes.
In the 10th inning, relief pitcher Seranthony Dominguez faced a challenging situation but managed to relied on Pages for support. Hernandez grounded out to Vladimir Guerrero Jr., allowing Dominguez to conclude the inning by getting the out at first base.
Finally, in the top of the 11th, Smith reignited hope for the Dodgers by hitting an extra-base home run off Shane Bieber, clinching the win. Los Angeles ultimately triumphed in the last two games of the series and celebrated their World Series victory.
