Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Dustin May’s 2024 season ended over the weekend after he underwent esophageal surgery, the team announced Sunday.
May needed surgery to repair a tear in his esophagus, team members said, adding that he had experienced discomfort after dinner early last week.

The right-hander sought medical attention the day after the dinner, complaining of a sore throat and stomach. ESPN reported.He has reportedly been diagnosed with a laceration to his throat, and according to ESPN, he will likely be unable to do any physical activity for the next two months.
May was scheduled for a rehab assignment while recovering from surgery on his second elbow nearly a year ago and had not yet appeared in a Dodgers game this season.
May has missed games the past two seasons due to injuries, but has appeared in 20 games over the past three seasons, striking out 98 batters in 101 innings.

He had to undergo Tommy John surgery in 2021, causing him to miss most of the 2021 and 2022 seasons, then injured his flexor tendon, causing him to miss most of the 2023 season.
The Dodgers’ pitching staff has been ravaged by injuries all season.
