Dodgers Take the Lead in Los Angeles Sports Affection
It’s clear: Los Angeles is truly a Dodger city now.
Recent survey data shows that many residents are currently favoring the Dodgers over the Lakers as their go-to sports team in the area. A study by the Thomas and Dorothy Levy Los Angeles Research Center asked over 2,000 locals, “What’s your favorite pro team in the Los Angeles media market?” The Dodgers came out on top without any doubt.
In this recent poll, Dave Roberts’ team received 42.9 percent of the votes, while the Lakers trailed behind at 28.2 percent.
Interestingly, this is a notable shift from a similar poll conducted in 2014, where the Lakers held a stronger position with 42.9 percent compared to the Dodgers’ 33.8 percent.
Fast forward to just three years ago, and the numbers were quite close: Lakers garnered 32.9 percent while the Dodgers were just behind at 32.1 percent.
This year, the Rams came in third, capturing 7 percent of the vote, followed by the Kings at 5 percent and the Angels at 4 percent.
On the other hand, the Sparks and Angel City FC shared the bottom spot, each collecting a mere 0.6 percent.
Perhaps it’s not too surprising this outcome aligns with what many observed recently at Dodger Stadium. After all, on March 31, while the Dodgers were entertaining a packed house, the Lakers faced off against the Cavaliers at Crypto.com Arena, miles away yet still part of the same sports narrative.
Despite the rainy weather, an impressive crowd of over 50,000 filled Dodger Stadium, illustrating how strong the loyalty for the Dodgers remains among locals.
