The Los Angeles Dodgers are set to bolster their starting rotation soon.
Recently, Tyler Glasnow made his second rehab start with the Oklahoma City Comets. While he didn’t pitch into the fourth inning, he managed to retire 11 out of the 13 batters he faced.
Glasnow, pitching right-handed, threw 67 pitches over 3.2 scoreless innings. He struck out eight batters and gave up two walks, showcasing a 41% whiff rate and a 34% CSW rate, which suggests he’s holding onto a solid performance level.
In this latest outing, Glasnow improved from his previous 2.2 innings at Triple-A, where he allowed one run. This marked his third rehab appearance overall; he had one with the Ontario Tower Buzzers and two with Oklahoma City.
This is quite encouraging for the Dodgers’ pitching squad, especially since both Glasnow and Shohei Ohtani have been absent from the rotation. Speaking of Ohtani, he also made significant progress recently, having pitched his first bullpen session in nearly a month.
It seems Glasnow is clearly on the mend. The 32-year-old had been placed on the disabled list back in May due to lower back spasms, a recurring issue he’s faced throughout his All-Star career. The Dodgers have been understandably cautious about his return.
Glasnow’s time with the Dodgers has been marked by injuries. Since his trade to Los Angeles in December 2023, he’s struggled with various issues each season. He missed the 2024 postseason because of a right elbow sprain, though he did manage to pitch a career-high 134 innings that year.
Last season, he was sidelined for over two months due to shoulder inflammation, but he returned in July, playing a vital role in the playoffs for the team.
This season, Glasnow has also faced injury challenges, but it looks like he’s nearing a return to the rotation. He will probably go through at least one more rehab stint before the Dodgers place him back on the active roster.
So far this season, Glasnow has pitched 39.2 innings across seven starts, with a solid 2.72 ERA and 49 strikeouts. Based on Friday’s performance, it seems like he’s hitting his stride just in time for October.
