Dodgers player offers straightforward view on team's performance after trailing 3-0 in NLCS: 'Playing poorly'

Dodgers Struggle in NLCS

The Los Angeles Dodgers faced a tough moment on Wednesday, but surprisingly, it didn’t come from a play on the field. After their 6-2 defeat to the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 3 of the NLCS—marking their third straight loss—All-Star third baseman Max Muncy finally experienced a moment of success but not without some frustration.

“It’s a pretty simple answer. We’re playing poorly, they’re playing great. It’s as simple as that,” Muncy commented candidly to the media after the game.

Muncy, despite being in a hitting slump this postseason with just 4 hits in 21 at-bats, managed to hit a home run earlier in the series but all those came in the NLDS. In the current NLCS, the Dodgers have not yet registered a home run and have particularly struggled when it comes to crucial hits, recording a dismal 3-for-32 with runners in scoring position.

They finally made a breakthrough in the sixth inning with catcher Will Smith hitting a ball off the wall, bringing in two runs and initially giving the team a 2-1 lead. However, relief pitcher DL Hall of the Brewers quickly turned things around, striking out the next two batters and putting a halt to the Dodgers’ momentum.

This lead, however, didn’t last long. Jake Bauers responded in the top of the seventh with a two-run home run, following a lengthy battle with pitcher Blake Snell, and soon after, center fielder Garrett Mitchell hit another solo shot, pushing the Brewers ahead 4-2.

From that point, the Dodgers’ lineup fell silent, as they ended up retiring nine consecutive batters, a frustrating finish to the game.

As the Dodgers ponder their next steps, it’s clear their journey toward a third consecutive World Series title seems increasingly challenging, now down 3-0 in the series. Muncy’s blunt assessment may echo in their minds, reminding them that without a change in performance, their chance to make history could very well slip away when they meet the Brewers again on Thursday night.
