Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani crushes second pitch of game vs. Mets for leadoff homer

In Game 4 between the Mets and Dodgers on Thursday night, Shohei Ohtani gave the Dodgers a 1-0 lead on just his second pitch.

The Japanese superstar got off to a strong start in Game 2 of the series at Citi Field by sending a sinker from Jose Quintana 422 feet into the right field bullpen.

It was the first time Ohtani had a hit without a runner in scoring position in this year's playoffs.

Ironically, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was asked about this very topic during Tuesday's team practice at Citi Field, at which point Ohtani had yet to hit without a runner in scoring position. He didn't seem too worried about it.

“I think it’s interesting how things have changed where there was a big concern early on that Shohei wasn’t going to be able to hit with runners in scoring position, and now we’re all saying, We're trying to figure out a way to get guys on base so he can hit. I think that's kind of funny,” Roberts said.

The Mets currently trail 2-1 in the best-of-seven series, with one more game scheduled for Friday in Queens.
