The FDA recommends that all product from listed lots be disposed of or destroyed in a manner that is inaccessible to children, pets, and wildlife. Areas that may have come into contact with contaminated food should be disinfected.
“FDA recommends not touching potentially contaminated foods with bare hands and recommends wearing gloves or using paper towels when disposing of contaminated products in sealed bags or when handling such foods,” the administration said in the notice.
Officials report that no illnesses have been confirmed linked to the dog food in question, noting that Listeria rarely causes illness in dogs and that of the thousands of Salmonella species, only a handful are harmful to pets or humans.
