Concerns Grow Over Dangerous Encounter in Prospect Park

A man, previously connected to an attack on a golden retriever named Moose in Prospect Park, is reportedly back to unsettling both humans and animals, according to the dog’s owner.

Jessica Crosstic, Moose’s owner, shared that on April 23rd, the individual threatened her, saying he would shoot her outside a picnic area in the park. “I filed a police report, but nothing has changed,” she stated. “This person roams freely in a public space and continues to intimidate others.”

Recently, another incident took place when this man approached a woman with her dog near Grand Army Plaza. The woman, who wished to stay anonymous, recounted her frightening experience, describing the man as “very aggressive.”

“I was just walking my dog when he appeared unexpectedly,” she said, visibly shaken. “I didn’t want to turn around and provoke him, so I just kept walking.” As she and her six-year-old miniature schnauzer crossed his path, he seemed to focus on her dog.

“He started saying something about my dog, but I couldn’t catch it all,” she added. Feeling threatened, she quickly gathered her dog and left the park.

“People like him shouldn’t be allowed to roam and intimidate others,” she emphasized.

This man, known for carrying a long stick, was associated with the unfortunate death of Moose in 2020. He was never arrested or charged following that incident. Since then, Crosstic has voiced her frustrations about the NYPD’s lack of action, noting that local councilor Shahana Hanif seemed more concerned about the attacker’s well-being than the victims.

Hanif did not respond to requests for a comment.

“There’s someone in the park who consistently frightens people,” Crosstic remarked, recalling the trauma of Moose’s death whenever she sees him. She has encountered the man several times this year.

“I feel like they want to avoid dealing with people who might have mental health issues,” Crosstic expressed regarding the police’s approach.

As of now, neither the NYPD nor the Parks Department have provided comments on the situation.
