A brave dog has been celebrated for its quick action after it chased away a bear that charged at a young boy outside his Connecticut home.
On July 4th, 6-year-old Colton Tazara was playing in front of his house when a large bear approached him.
Heart-stopping video from the family’s security camera shows the black bear rushing toward the boy, forcing him to scramble to his feet.
Fortunately, the family’s husky mix, Bella, darted toward the bear, diverting its attention.
Colton’s father, Jeffrey Tazara, recounted hearing Bella’s barking before witnessing the confrontation. He noted, “It was a ferocious bark, nothing like her usual sounds. This was different.”
The footage reveals Bella grabbing the bear’s tail and pulling it away just as it was about to reach Colton. She then continued to chase the bear out of their yard.
“[S]he bit me as the bear crashed into my boat, then scurried under it, darting between houses and into the woods,” Tazara shared.
On July 17, Bella received accolades from local politicians, who praised her “incredible courage” in confronting the bear.
State Senator Stephen Harding commented on Facebook, “Stories like hers highlight the amazing connections between families and their pets, and the remarkable acts of bravery that occur in our communities.” He added, “Congratulations, Bella! Connecticut is proud to have you as one of our best dogs!”
