Reports say the Office of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has cancelled the lease at the Obama Presidential Library in Chicago.
Doge now has a library at Hoffman Estate in Chicago, which is on an extensive list of federal lease ends. However, since the library was already closed and planned to move to a new location, the lease termination may not have any meaningful or significant impact.
According to Fox News:
Although Doge's website did not provide a closure schedule, a Nara spokesman told Fox News Digital that the Hoffman Estates Library is scheduled to close in the second half of 2025 (FY) and will move to College Park in Maryland. The government's fiscal year 2025 will be held until September 30th, 2025.
According to Nara's estimates, Hoffman Estate Building has around 25 million uncategorized paper documents, which are now digital and available in digital format when it is opened at the Obama Presidential Center. Under the Presidential Records Act of 1978, Nara gains custody of all presidential records and artifacts when the president resigns.
