Don’t Be Fooled by Her Looks, She’s Still Jenny from the Block
At the upcoming 2026 Golden Globe Awards Inauguration Ceremony, a certain pekingese named BeBe is set to make a splash, wearing a stunning replica of Jennifer Lopez’s iconic vintage dress. This event has been dubbed “the most glamorous night of pet fashion.”
BeBe, a six-year-old dog from the Upper East Side, will walk the red carpet on January 26 at Lacquette NYC in Chelsea, showcasing a version of J. Lo’s Jean-Louis Cheraire mermaid gown. Anthony Rubio, the organizer behind Golden Paws, mentioned that finding the right fabric was quite the challenge, leading them to create the costume themselves after searching extensively. “It took a week of hand-sewing to get it just right,” he said.
This isn’t the first time BeBe has taken inspiration from the multi-talented performer. “This is actually her second time dressing up as J. Lo,” said BeBe’s owner, Kevin Roberge. In a previous appearance at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, Lopez famously wore a dramatic cutout gown along with a black ribbon, a look Roberge jokingly referred to as her “coming out dress” post-divorce.
Rubio, the pet couturier behind the elaborate costumes for the 13 dogs attending the Golden Paws event, shared his frustration over the color theme for this year’s show. “I love color, but it seems everyone decided to show up in black and white,” he remarked, expressing his surprise.
Among the canine attendees, there’s a four-year-old Papillon named Finley, who will be dressed as Hudson Williams from the HBO Max series Rivals, complete with a Giorgio Armani jacket. Finley’s owner, Elizabeth Weinstein, believes the dog bears a resemblance to the character, describing him as having “shiny black hair and cute freckles.” Finley will also be competing in a look-alike contest dubbed “Heated Rivals” come February.
Another standout is Kimba, a 14-year-old Chihuahua who will replicate an embellished Louis Vuitton dress worn by actress Chase Infinity from the film One Battle After Another. Rubio, who also organizes a Pet Gala, dedicated himself to replicating the exact look, ensuring comfort for the little pup while wearing the strapless creation.
Then there’s Dusty, a six-year-old Pomeranian, who will channel Glen Powell’s navy blue tuxedo from his recent Golden Globe-nominated role. Dusty embraces the style with cool blue-tinted sunglasses, which according to his owner, Laurie Silver, help keep him calm during photo ops. “He enjoys wearing it just for the pictures,” she added.
No awards show would be complete without recognitions of some sort. Rubio will be giving out titles like Best Male Pet, Best Female Pet, and even a Lifetime Achievement Award, adding yet another layer of charm to this unique event.
