DOJ, FBI Folks Worried About Being Thrown in Jail in Second Trump Term

CNN analyst and former FBI director Andrew McCabe said on CNN’s “The Source” on Wednesday that intelligence and law enforcement officials are concerned that former President Donald Trump “will end up in jail or in some sort of extrajudicial detention” if he is re-elected.

McCabe said, “If you think about these things and try to predict how Donald Trump will respond and what steps he will take, you only have to listen to what he says and does. His recent comments have been nasty and nasty, but they are by no means surprising. He has been saying this for some time now. Retaliation is about retaliation against his supporters. So you know him and you know what makes him tick. He is not a person who is driven by principles or ideology. He is completely transactional.”

He continued, “If he feels wronged in any way, he will focus on revenge, and he will continue to seek revenge. He has made it perfectly clear that that is what he intends to do. In the process of seeking that, he risks dismantling or significantly weakening the Department of Justice and the FBI. That should worry Americans on both sides of the political spectrum. We rely on these institutions to protect us.”

McCabe added: “It’s frightening. I’ve had a lot of conversations with former colleagues and people who have been or are in intelligence and law enforcement, people who worked in the Obama administration and so forth, and people are really trying to think about what their lives would be like if Donald Trump were re-elected. On a very personal level, it’s painful to have conversations with family members about whether they have to leave the country to avoid unconstitutional and unlawful detention. People were worried that they would actually end up in jail or in some kind of extrajudicial detention. It sounds crazy in America, but I think people really should be thinking about these possibilities. Listen to this guy.”
