DOJ Tried to Charge My Son with ‘Terrorism Enhancement’ for January 6

Brent Bozell III’s son is facing a charge of “promoting terrorism” for allegedly breaching the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, Bozell said in an interview with Breitbart News discussing his son’s case.

Bozell, founder and president of the Media Research Center, had remained silent until his son’s sentencing because he feared speaking out publicly would be used against him. While her son is not overtly political, she said, he was among those who genuinely believed the election was rigged. Her son admitted to breaking into the Capitol on Jan. 6, breaking two windows in the process. But Bozell expected prosecutors to bring other charges, especially if the obstruction charge is dropped.

“If he drops the obstruction charge, then all that’s left is people who are entering the Capitol, just like the people who support Hamas, just like the Code Pink people who are disrupting the Capitol, and they’re going to get the same kind of punishment that those people would get in a fair justice system, which is a misdemeanor and a $45 fine,” Bozell explained, noting that prosecutors tried to charge his son with assault on a police officer, even though he did not assault the officer. He said the footage is very grainy and shows his son talking to a police officer for about two minutes. At one point, a crowd began to gather, pushing and pushing his son toward the officer.

“The judge himself admits he doesn’t even know if my son touched the officer, so how can that be assault? You see here that assault doesn’t necessarily mean attack. It can mean obstruction or interference. And the fact that my son was at the front of the line means he was obstructing and interfering with the officer’s work. Bang, guilty of assault,” he said, noting that his son initially pleaded no contest to the only charge except obstruction, namely breaking the window. But the charges didn’t end there.

“On the eve of sentencing, they slapped him with the most incredible charge imaginable: aggravated terrorism. They’re alleging that his acts were acts of terrorism. … This man is the father of three daughters and has no criminal history beyond traffic violations. [and] “He has now been equated with Osama bin Laden,” he said, explaining that the judge had refused to accept the new charges.

“A lot of people initially pleaded guilty because they were told, ‘If you don’t plead guilty and don’t go to prison for four years, you’re going to get 27 years, 20 years,’ and by the way, as I just explained, that’s exactly what my son got. He was told his charges were 22 to 27 years, up to 20 years,” Bozell said.

“What they wanted was an enhanced terrorism charge, and the judge didn’t allow it,” host Mike Slater explained.

“He didn’t accept it, that’s the magnitude of the issue, but Peter Navarro and so many others have gone through the same thing. They’ve been through the same thing. The bigger the name, the bigger the charges, the more publicity, the more people and money,” Bozell said, explaining that “the initial sentence was a threat of 20 years in prison.”

“But then people realize, wait a minute, if the obstruction charge is dismissed, this becomes relative, this becomes insignificant. … That’s the same thing the left does. … It means they can’t get a higher sentence by doing the exact same thing that Code Pink has been doing for years. And then the defendants realize, ‘Oh, my God, I wish I’d never done that. I wish I’d never pleaded guilty.’ But they did plead guilty,” he added.
