- Dolly Parton is writing new songs for her upcoming Broadway musical in 2026, incorporating some of her past hits into the show’s story.
- The musical, “Hello, I’m Dolly,” takes its title from Parton’s 1967 debut album, which included hits such as “Dumb Blonde” and “Something Fishy.”
- The musical will be produced by Parton alongside Adam Spears and Danny Nozel.
“Hello, Dolly” was a huge success on Broadway, now it’s time to get ready for “Hello, I’m Dolly.”
Dolly Parton is writing new songs to accompany her old hits and co-writing a stage story inspired by her own life for a stage musical that she hopes to hit Broadway in 2026.
“I’ve written many original songs for this show and have included all of your favorite songs. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll clap and you’ll stomp your feet. It’s truly grand ole opera. Pun and fun intended,” she said in a statement.

Parton will produce the story alongside Maria S. Schlatte, who won an Emmy as a producer on Netflix’s “Christmas on the Square,” starring Christine Baranski.

“Hello, I’m Dolly” was the title of Parton’s debut album, released in 1967, which included songs such as “Dumb Blonde” and “Something Fishy.”
Parton has since become something of a national treasure, starring in movies, writing books, winning a Grammy Award, becoming the first country artist to be named MusiCares Person of the Year and donating $1 million to coronavirus research.
With 52 Grammy nominations and 11 wins, she is the second most nominated woman in Grammy history, behind Beyoncé, who has 79 nominations and 24 wins. The country icon was awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award 10 years ago.
Parton has a long list of past hits to choose from, including three top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100: “9 to 5,” “Here You Come Again” and “Islands in the Stream.” She also has 25 hits that have reached No. 1 on the country charts, including “Yellow Roses,” “Think About Love,” “Tennessee Homesick Blues” and “Jolene.”

This isn’t the first time a Parton song has been performed on Broadway: a stage version of “9 to 5” opened in 2009 starring Stephanie J. Block, Megan Hilty and Allison Janney, and the 1993 Christmas special “Candles, Snow & Mistletoe” featured Parton’s song “With Bells On.”
Parton’s show will be the latest musician biopic to have a Broadway production set to their songs, joining recent artists such as Neil Diamond, Alicia Keys, Michael Jackson, Carole King, Gloria and Emilio Estefan.
She will be working with such pop and rock greats on Broadway’s music as Elton John, Cyndi Lauper, The Go-Go’s, Sting, Alanis Morissette, Dave Stewart, Eddie Brickell, Trey Anastasio, David Byrne, Fatboy Slim, Bono and The Edge.
