Dolly Parton Passes Away at 80 After Cancer Battle
Iconic artist Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80 following a brief struggle with cancer, leaving behind heartfelt plans for her final farewell.
On August 25, her nephew, Bryan Seaver, took to Instagram to share the news of her passing, which shook the entertainment world. He expressed that “after a life wearing heavy rhinestones, she finally deserves to be comfortable and have some rest.”
Seaver mentioned that Dolly had shared with him her desire to rest in a cozy bed, emphasizing her well-earned need for comfort after a life so vibrant and adorned.
The family has not disclosed specific details regarding the type of cancer she faced. However, it’s clear that Parton took meaningful steps regarding her funeral long before her departure.
She had chosen a particular song to be played, but also left behind a hidden piece of her legacy in a time capsule. Instructing her family to reveal it on her 100th birthday in 2046, she certainly had her future in mind.
During a 2014 conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Parton mentioned her classic song that gained additional fame through Whitney Houston’s interpretation. “I’m sure they’ll be playing ‘I Will Always Love You’ when I die,” she said, recalling the iconic tune.
Yet, she expressed a deeper connection to another song. Parton revealed to EW that her choice for the funeral was “If We Never Meet Again,” an old country-gospel hymn tied closely to her family. This song held sentimental value as it was her father’s favorite and was sung at his funeral. She mentioned her hope that it would also be performed at her own.
On Tuesday, her representatives confirmed that she wished for a small, private service for close friends and family, though the details of any public gathering have not been shared yet.
As fans worldwide mourn the loss of this legendary figure, there remains a bright note—a gift from Parton, destined to be enjoyed long after her passing.
Parton placed a locked chestnut box at Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, which contains a recording of an unreleased song titled “My Place in History.” This song was crafted in 2015, coinciding with the opening of the resort. She specifically requested that it be revealed on her 100th birthday—January 19, 2046.
In addition, she provided a CD of the recording and a CD player to ensure that her music could be shared and celebrated.
