Dolphins confront $11M question about Tyreek Hill as Miami's future remains uncertain

There’s no telling when Miami’s standout wide receiver will be back in action, but he might not be wearing a Dolphins jersey when that happens.

The Dolphins celebrated their first win of the season, edging out the Jets 27-21 on Monday. Yet, the joy was short-lived as All-Pro receiver Tyreek Hill went down with a serious injury during the third quarter, effectively ending his season.

Hill, who is 31, suffered multiple ligament tears in his dislocated left knee, including the ACL. He mentioned the need for “major reconstructive surgery” scheduled for Tuesday.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport tweeted that this surgery might lead to additional procedures down the line. He also pointed out that Hill could potentially be sidelined until the 2026 season.

This tough situation makes it clear that Miami is facing some tough choices ahead.

Rapoport added that there is no guaranteed portion of Hill’s $29.9 million salary for 2026. However, if he remains on the roster come March, he would be entitled to an $11 million injury guarantee and a $5 million roster bonus.

It’s usually poor sports business to cut a star player, but in this case, the Dolphins (1-3) might need to consider moving on from Hill instead of committing money to someone who can’t contribute on the field.

If they make that decision, there’s another aspect that could ease the team’s conscience a bit.

Hill was reportedly smiling and joking with teammates as he left the field, a stark contrast to how one might expect a player to react after such a devastating injury, according to Miami coach Mike McDaniel.

This reaction only adds to the speculation that Hill may be unhappy in Miami, supporting ongoing rumors.

Hill hasn’t publicly shared his thoughts on the injury yet. But if he is actually relieved to be off the field, it could pave the way for a mutual parting.
