Don Lemon on Potential Presidential Run
Former CNN anchor and independent journalist Don Lemon has shared some thoughts on the idea of running for president.
“Have you thought about it? Yes,” Lemon mentioned in a recent appearance on a podcast. He acknowledged that if given the right opportunity, he might consider it. He seemed aware that people might find the idea amusing, perhaps even crazy. But he expressed confidence, stating, “I think I can become president of the United States. I have no doubt that I can run this country better than Donald Trump.”
However, Lemon clarified that he isn’t actively pursuing a presidential run, indicating that it could “ruin” his life. He highlighted the disparity in how white male candidates are treated in comparison to women or minority candidates. Lemon also suggested he might need to switch his party affiliation from Independent to Democratic.
Despite his hesitations, he pushed back against the notion that running for office is out of reach. “Am I at that point right now? No. People will say Don Lemon is crazy. But yeah, it’s… Look, why can’t I think about running for president?” he said. He reflected on the unexpected rise of Barack Obama and how no one considered him presidential material initially.
In comments to FOX News Digital, Lemon stated he would wait for signals from his birth parents and “the people” before making any moves toward a candidacy.
“As a child, my parents taught me that I could do anything I wanted, and I believed that,” he noted. He also mentioned the importance of consulting his faith about such a significant decision.
On the show, Lemon expressed confidence that he could lead a news organization better than many others, hinting at potential changes at his former network.
Lemon gained significant attention in January when he live-streamed a protest at a church, which led to his arrest on conspiracy charges related to a religious freedom case.
He pleaded not guilty in a formal arraignment last month.
