Don Lemon Criticized for Remarks on Megyn Kelly
Former CNN anchor Don Lemon has faced backlash for using the term “transgender” as an insult aimed at conservative TV host Megyn Kelly.
On the podcast “Crip Farmers,” the co-hosts were discussing whether Kelly looked “chopped” or unattractive. Lemon admitted he was unsure what that meant, while his co-host noted that it was “not hot.” He continued, stating, “Oh, she’s chopped up. I don’t know, but the whole MAGA look… It’s too much.”
Then, Lemon commented, “I think she looks transgender,” implying she was suited for a specific “watch” reference. This term “clockable” is often used to describe transgender individuals who may not pass as their chosen gender but can still be identified as transgender by others.
Since those remarks, Lemon has come under fire for using transgender identity in a derogatory way, with Republicans criticizing his behavior as hypocritical, while others from the left also expressed strong disapproval.
One user on social media remarked, “Are liberals using ‘trans’ as an insult now…!? LOL,” while another questioned, “I thought trans women were women and more beautiful than actual women??” Yet another critic pointed out that “trans ideology has set them up to destroy each other over who looks more like women or men.”
This incident coincided with Lemon’s staunch opposition to laws aimed at protecting children from transgender ideologies, positioning himself as a supporter of the LGBTQ community. He noted that nearly half of such bills specifically target transgender and nonbinary individuals, mentioning measures that ban gender-affirming care for transgender youth and drag performances.
Lemon has previously spoken out against Kelly, especially following her comments on the situation involving Joy Reid. In a heated exchange, he accused Kelly of racism after she criticized Reid’s past behavior.
