Don Lemon Considers Presidential Run for 2028
Former CNN host Don Lemon recently expressed in an interview his serious interest in running for president in 2028.
During an appearance on the podcast “Can’t be Censored,” hosts Travis Dhanraj and Karman Wong directly inquired about Lemon’s political aspirations. To their surprise, he conveyed that he is “totally serious” about the prospect of running for the presidency of the United States.
“Do you have political ambition? Is that true?” Dhanraj asked.
Lemon replied, “No, but people keep asking me if I’m running for president. And I don’t know. I might. I’m serious. I don’t know. I might, because people keep asking me to do it, or if I’m going to do it.”
He further noted, “I actually think I would be a really good president of the United States.”
He clarified that any potential campaign would focus on grassroots support instead of relying on significant corporate donations.
“I would like it to be a voter-citizen-driven campaign for as much as it can be. Maybe at some point I might have to take a donation. I would rather not do that, but I would rather the people of the United States to say, ‘That’s the guy that we want. I’m gonna give him five dollars or $10’ or something that doesn’t break the bank because I know that the economy is tough,” he stated.
Lemon, who was dismissed from CNN in April 2023, has been a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump. During the interview, he criticized Trump’s leadership, arguing that he “could have done a better job if he actually listened to people,” adding that Trump tends to believe he knows everything.
His departure from CNN was the result of a series of on-air controversies, internal tensions, and declining viewership. The turning point occurred in February 2023 during an episode of “CNN This Morning,” when Lemon sparked backlash by claiming that 51-year-old Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley was past her “prime,” asserting that women are only in their prime in their 20s and 30s.
Amid falling ratings, reports of guests avoiding him, and a damaging exposé revealing allegations of misogynistic behavior, CNN management decided to end his 17-year tenure to safeguard the morning show’s brand.
