Trump Jr. Weighs In on NYC Mayoral Frontrunner
On Wednesday, Donald Trump Jr. expressed that Zoran Mamdani, the leading candidate for mayor of New York City, might actually make a “great” leader if he wins.
He raised concerns about Mamdani’s proposed tax increases for billionaires and big corporations, labeling them as ideas from “Champagne Socialists.” Trump Jr. suggested that such a policy could, perhaps unintentionally, drive high-income residents out of the city, which would complicate funding for his agenda that, he claims, is filled with “gifts.”
“If Mamdani wins, he’ll likely serve as an example for other areas in the country, especially since New York City is really facing challenges,” he said.
President Trump’s son criticized Mamdani’s promise of a 2% tax hike on billionaires and a 4.5% rise for businesses, arguing that it would deter those who typically support the city’s grant programs.
He stated, “The reality is that no one wants to pay that much.” If Mamdani’s policies take hold, wealth might just shift to states like Florida and Texas. It’s a troubling thought.
“This is unfortunate for real New Yorkers and the middle class. The wealthiest individuals can relocate easily—they can essentially work from anywhere,” he lamented.
He added, “They represent a significant portion of the tax income that sustains all these programs in New York City. Losing 10,000 to 15,000 of those top earners would create serious issues, and there’s no free lunch being offered to remedy that.”
Trump Jr. wrapped up with a sigh, “That’s a shame.”
In a similar vein, his brother Eric pointed out that New York City is a vital hub for capitalism globally. He criticized Mamdani’s stance, saying, “The man is publicly declaring his intention to dismantle capitalism.”
“It’s the opposite of what New York City stands for. His attitude is unsettling, and I believe it poses a miserable future for the nation,” he remarked.
The Trumps’ remarks coincided with Mamdani’s week-long campaign tour directed against Trump, during which he labeled Trump’s policies as “disastrous threats” to the residents of New York.
Mamdani’s campaign activities, aimed at all five boroughs, assert that “there’s no borough that will escape Trump’s cruelty.”
