Former President Donald Trump on Monday announced Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) as his running mate for 2024.
The highly anticipated moment came just as Trump was formally nominated as the Republican presidential candidate at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Trump made the announcement on Truth Social:
After lengthy deliberation and consideration, and taking into account his many other incredible talents, I have determined that the person best qualified to serve as Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio. J.D. served his country honorably in the Marines, graduated summa cum laude from Ohio State University, and graduated from Yale Law School where he served as editor of the Yale Law Journal and president of the Yale Law Veterans Association. J.D.’s book, “Hillbilly Elegy,” championed the hardworking men and women of our country and was a best-seller and film. J.D. has had a highly successful business career in technology and finance, and now during this campaign he will focus on the people for whom he fought so brilliantly: the American workers and farmers of Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota, and beyond.
As Vice President, JD will continue to fight for the Constitution, stand with our troops, and do all I can to Make America Great Again. Congratulations to Senator JD Vance, his wife Usha, also a Yale Law School graduate, and their three beautiful children. MAGA2024!
Donald Trump Jr., a close friend of Vance’s, posted shortly thereafter:

Vance, 39, will serve as Ohio’s senator in 2023 and is widely seen as a successor to the America First movement that launched President Donald Trump’s 2016 election.
Breitbart News Washington Bureau Chief Matthew Boyle recently reported that Vance is the first Marine and the first millennial to be nominated for president by a major party.
The attempted assassination of President Trump on Saturday underscored the urgency of selecting a running mate.
Also under consideration were Sens. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and Doug Burgum (R-North Dakota).
Vance spoke to Breitbart News in an exclusive interview in 2021.
