President-elect Donald Trump's nomination of House Speaker Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) to be ambassador to the United Nations was met with much praise.

Stefanik attracted attention in 2021 when she replaced Liz Cheney as conference chair. She then played a pivotal role in the successful Republican effort to regain control of the House in the 2022 midterm elections. In 2023, after Hamas attacked Israel, the New York state congressman became the leading Republican focused on eradicating anti-Semitism on college campuses.
