Donald Trump Appoints Jeanine Pirro As Leading Prosecutor in Washington

Trump Appoints Janine Pirro as U.S. Attorney for D.C.

On Thursday, Donald Trump nominated television figure and former judge Janine Pirro to a significant judicial role in the U.S. Her appointment as U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia marks another selection from his favored pool of candidates, particularly those associated with the right-leaning Fox News network.

At 73, Pirro has a notable past, being a familiar face in conservative media. Other individuals linked to cable news, such as Pete Hegseth, who co-hosted “Fox & Friends Weekend,” and Sean Duffy, who previously appeared on Fox Business, have also found roles in Trump’s administration.

This latest choice followed a surprising withdrawal of Trump’s first nominee, a defense attorney involved in the January 6 Capitol incident.

Trump announced on his social media platform, expressing satisfaction with the selection of Judge Janine Pirro as interim U.S. attorney for the D.C. area, referring to her as “in her own rank.” Pirro’s political ambitions have seen her attempt runs for the U.S. Senate and New York State Attorney General, although she was unsuccessful in the latter against Andrew Cuomo.

She gained broader recognition by hosting “Judge Jeanine Pirro” from 2008 to 2011 and has been part of the Fox News channel since then, leading “Justice with Judge Jeanine” for over a decade. Currently, she co-hosts the show “The Five.”

Additionally, Pirro has authored multiple books since 2018, including titles focusing on perceived threats against Trump. After promoting unverified claims of election fraud in 2020, she faced legal challenges from Dominion Voting Systems, leading to a significant settlement of nearly $800 million by Fox News.
